On the 4th of January, I had my first introductory lesson, which was also my first time on the road. That went very well and my instructor was impressed and found it very hard to believe that it was my first time on the road. I was booked in for 20 hours of lessons spread over 2 weeks. They went well and I was confident.
My test was booked for the 2nd of April @ 08.20 in Exeter. My examiner was called Rob, he is an ex-copper and seemed like a nice enough guy.
As soon as the test started, he wanted me to do a bay park which went very well. We then went pulled out of the test centre. Everything was going well, the other maneuver I had to do was a turn in the road which is a piece of piss. But I don't everything else right, as far as I was concerned. I took a look at the clock at it was 08.50 and I thought, "we should be making our way back now, and I think I've done it!" We came up to (For those of you know who know it) Matford Roundabout, from Dawlish going towards The Devon Hotel. The traffic was chock-a-block as it would be at about 08.50. The traffic to my right is 2 lanes, the turning I wanted was also 2 lanes, so both lanes of traffic from my right could take the same turning I wanted. I was waiting there for ages and I thought to myself "If I don't move soon, he will fail me for being over cautious" There was only one car at my right, stationary in the inside lane. "Here's my chance" I thought. I pulled away, but ofcourse because on the test as soon as you go over 10mph you need to be into second (and the same for when you hit 20mph, you should change into 3rd and so on. If you don't, you incur a minor. - Everyone seems to not believe me on this, but its true  ) so, as I went for 2nd gear, I lost momentum and the car which was stationary to my right had caught up. About 2 bloody minutes away from the test station as well!
When I got back to the test station he said, "I'm sorry to say you've failed. I am actually sorry to tell you that as that was a near perfect drive, higher standards than what we are actually looking for, but I have to fail you for what happened back there." etc.
Silly really, as a different examiner would of failed me for waiting to long where as another would of wanted to stay. Ah, well...No point for "ifs" and "buts" its happened.
Just means I have to wait even longer.
Edit: Here is a picture for those who don't know Exeter, or even Devon
I'm the black dot, the blue dot is the other car and the red line is where we were going. The right lane was clear. The other car was stationary showing no indication.
I would only go if it was really something special. Such as "The biggest out door kart track in the world/country" etc. Then you would find a lot of British people going.
I can't see the point of the UK LFSers going all the way to Portugal unless it was part of a world wide LFS meet.
Actually, I have family in Portugal, so I would go
There maybe facts to prove he is real, but the amount of facts to suggest he isn't real makes the odds fairly slim.
I wouldn't say I'm an atheist, I'm a Christian, but more "open to the idea of a God" rather than a straight "No he doesn't exist" / "Yes he does exist"
I have a N95, great phone. The battery life is a little poor, well actually its very very crap. But if you get the firmware updated, it is a great phone. Shame they are going for £800+ on the bay!
Niall - Thanks for the links mate, I'll take a look at them. Cheers. After a bit of my own research it seems that Dublin would be my best bet from a work point of view and also a living point of view. My mum went to Dublin a couple of years ago and she loved it. We take a lot of visits to London as we have family there, and my mum described Dublin as a much cleaner place than London with a lot less arrogance. Yes, I do have an accent I'm from Devon and its a little "Orrr Arrrr" I do plan of visiting Dublin for a week to see how I like it. I don't want to go and set up camp to find I hate the place. But thanks again for those links mate.
Sam93 - It harder than you may think. Without blowing my own trumpet, I am a bloody big guy and people who sometimes leave a log in my pants are shit scared of me! But despite my size, drunk ****s can not see past it and still want a pop despite being surrounded by 3 other bouncer friends. The threats are funny. People who can't even stand up straight thinking they could "Take me on any day" You get a few nice people with respect for the big guys in black.
SamH - Thanks for that little insight buddy. I wasn't sure if there was still any hatred of us English. With Dublin being a bit more of a tourist attraction, I'm guessing that the hatred has died down a little? I hope so anyway. Nothing worse than feeling like the odd guy out. Like I said to Niall, I plan on taking a visit to Dublin so if the hatred is to much for me, I won't be sticking about for long!
Thanks everyone Any other info is greatly appreciated.
I'm am looking into moving to Ireland for maybe 6 months to a year. Maybe more. I have been offered a fairly good job in Security, doing stuff from event security (festivals etc.) to door supervisor at clubs and what not. God knows I'm built for it. When I first got offered it, I thought "pfffft, Nah." But now I am giving it some serious thought.
I just need an information on living in Ireland, preferably from someone who visits England and Ireland to tell me the big differences. Also, some pure Irish-ers would be a great help too.
I would be looking at getting my own place, maybe renting a flat. Not sure if I would take my own car over, or just buy one over there (You still drive on the left over there, right? :razz
I just need to know general living cost and just any information that may help swing my decision in either direction. What places would you recommend going to live in Ireland? Which cities etc.
Also, would everyones reaction to me be "Ahh, Englishman!! Time to get the stakes out again lads..." or would it be a more stereotypical approach of "Be Jasus, have anoder pint of Guinness me ol' matey"
Would anyone be able to tell me the licence issue with secruity over there. Here we must have a SIA Licence which cost around £500 to obtain after training. Do I need any kind of special licence to do anything like that?
